Christian Religious Studies (CRS) syllabus approved by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
General Objective of JAMB Syllabus for CRS
- The aim of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) syllabus in Christian Religious Studies is to prepare candidates for the Board’s examination.
- It is designed to test candidates’ achievement of the course objectives, which are to:
- Acquire the knowledge and understanding of the tenets of the Christian faith as contained in the Bible
- Interpret biblical teachings and themes
- Apply biblical teachings and tenets to life in society
- Evaluate the level of application of biblical teachings and tenets to life in society
- The syllabus is divided into four sections, namely:
- Section A: Themes from Creation to the Division of the Kingdom
- Section B: Themes from the Division of the Kingdom to the Return from Exile and the Prophets
- Section C: Themes from the Four Gospels and Acts of the Apostles
- Section D: Themes from Selected Epistles
Section A: God and the Early Bible Stories
Students learn about:
- God as the Creator of everything
- God’s promises (covenants) with people like Noah and Abraham
- Good leaders like Joseph, Moses, Joshua, and David
- Obedience to God and its rewards
- Disobedience and its consequences
Section B: Prophets and God’s Messages
Students learn about:
- Greed and why it is wrong
- God’s power is shown through prophets like Elijah
- Courage and faith shown by Daniel and his friends
- God’s message of repentance, justice, and love
- Hope and forgiveness after punishment
Section C: Jesus and His Teachings
Students learn about:
- The birth and life of Jesus Christ
- Jesus’ baptism, miracles, and parables
- Love, kindness, forgiveness, and prayer
- Jesus’ death, resurrection, and ascension
- The early church and spreading the Gospel
Section D: Christian Living and Values
Students learn about:
- Faith and new life in Christ
- Love, humility, and forgiveness
- Helping others and sharing
- Obeying rules and working honestly
- Prayer, fairness, and good behaviour
- Avoiding corruption and bad habits
